Our books let us live here and other matters

Quite a few changes are underway in our house. With the 6-month mark now a week and a half in the past, things that were previously in the dim future (sippy cups and high chairs) are suddenly bearing down on us like multi-colored freight trains. Duncan and Tristan are learning to eat fruits and vegetables; Tristan has learned that rolling can take him places (though not necessarily where he intended to go); Dane and I are spending a lot of time moving furniture and thinking about gates.

We had a grand re-organizing/baby-proofing effort over the weekend. Dane now has an office in the living room, Duncan and Tristan have a room to themselves, and we've defined a few zones of our 1000-sq. ft. apartment that will ultimately be childproofed. The biggest impediment to the whole endeavor is the books. We have a lot of them. Duncan and Tristan are getting a lot of them. There are books in the living room, the hallway, the bedrooms, the "office." And we want more!!!! I eyed the bookshelves guiltily when NPR ran a story about hording behavior Sunday evening.

In other news, we went to the 6-month well child appointment today. We sorted out some funny business in Duncan's hospital discharge papers and determined that he still has three weeks of antibiotics to go. The foot is still looking good and his growth hasn't been impacted. In fact, Duncan and Tristan's stats are virtually indistinguishable. They're both 25.75 inches long and weigh a smidge over 17 lbs. Chubby, happy guys.

Oh how I wish for a baby-proof room! It's terrible with our rented furnished place.
