I woke up this morning, warm and comfortable, with the room just starting to brighten to pre-dawn grey. The apartment was silent. No one was awake but me. There were no dogs barking; no neighbors were showering, arguing or slamming their car doors. I couldn't hear traffic or sirens. The only sound was birds calling the sun to come up from behind the mountains.
After a while, Duncan added some small grunts and pterodactyl squawks to the birdsong, and the day started. Nursing in bed, diapers, and playing in the sunshine.
