22 weeks

Here's what Hanna looked like at the start of this week:

Hanna had another ultrasound appointment last week, and as a result we also have images of what's inside that ever-expanding abdomen:

And, for anyone who wanted proof that the next members of clan Sizemore are, in fact, boys:

I'll leave it to others to make jokes about similarities between myself and my future sons.

Whatever traits they may or may not inherit from their father, the future additions to our family continue to be healthy and grow as expected; the ultrasound technician ran through a range of diagnostics, measuring heart rate, skull size, torso diameter, presence of various organs, etc. Everything is in order and developing as expected.

The task of incubating not one, but two developing humans is beginning to take its toll on Hanna. Our plan of taking daily strolls in the park has been abandoned, as walking is becoming increasingly uncomfortable for her (as well as the source of much hilarity for those willing to laugh at her waddling gait). While walking is difficult, Hanna has been swimming as often as she can, the water providing her with both exercise that doesn't strain her abdominal muscles as well as providing some relief from the effects of gravity. Hanna's muscles still hurt at the end of the day from the strain of carrying her offspring; her doctor in Boulder told her that carrying twins would feel like the soreness of a hard workout every day until delivery, and this seems to be an accurate description of what Hanna's enduring.

In addition to the general soreness and increasing lack of mobility, the other issue Hanna is dealing with is overall fatigue. I'm doing what I can to combat this by keeping the fridge stocked with food and making sure that dinner is on the table when she gets home, so after a long day of work she can simply relax.

Overall, our growing family is doing well. The challenges will ramp up, I'm sure, but Hanna just bought two new books about twins, and we're also going to a support group for parents of twins in the next few weeks; hopefully between the two we'll get some good advice on what should prepare for, and how best to do it.

I love reading about your expanding family! Those boys are certainly lucky to have such loving and amazing parents. Best wishes to you all!

Are the 'bottom, leg, arrow' annotations by the ultrasound person, or you guys? Kind of funny.

The ultrasound tech did the labels -- we would just typed "penis."
