Return of the dinosaur suit

The boys will be 16 weeks old on Monday, and they have been growing like weeds. They're growing so fast, in fact, that the hats I made them two weeks ago don't really fit any more. (Fortunately knitting is stretchy, and the pattern I posted before is easy to modify. More on that later.) We're still stretching the boys into some of the 0-3 month clothes, but last night I finally had to bring out the larger stuff. And the thing I went for first was the new brown-fuzzy dinosaur suit!

The original dinosaur suit was one of the few preemie-size outfits we got, and it was the first outfit that Tristan wore after we brought him home from the hospital. When I was pregnant I refused to read the preemie information in my twin books, or to buy little clothes, because I was determined to get Duncan and Tristan as close to full term as possible. Then at the last minute, I told my mom that we would probably need just a few preemie things. She sent a small box. Everything in the box was worn, but nothing as much as the dinosaur suit. It turns out, I have a real weakness for anything involving dinosaurs. I make fun of the talking ducks on lots of baby clothes, but show me a hood with stegosaurus fins and I pretty much lose my mind oo-ing and aah-ing. So, the dinosaur suit went with Tristan on his first trip to the park and to the grocery store and on almost all of the trips to visit Duncan in the hospital. It was a sad day when we just couldn't force it to zip anymore.

Fortunately for me, and perhaps unfortunately for Tristan, my mom found the same suit in a bigger size. So, now I can enjoy a few more months of parading the poor kid around in what amounts to a camouflage suit, while telling him all about dinosaurs. Fun!!

In other news, both boys are now big enough to ride facing forward in their bjorns. Here's a photo of Duncan trying it out for the first time very, very early in the morning. (I think he liked it.)

Other new things are happening for them every day. They're starting to see and react to things farther and farther away. The paper-crane mobile I made them has suddenly become fascinating. Me dancing around in the living room for them is hilarious (Dane thinks so, too). They reach and grab for their stuffed dragon toys. Tristan has started imitating faces (he sticks out his tongue at you if you stick out your tongue at him). The crib is starting to get crowded -- they're too long to lay comfortably cross-ways now, and several times we've found Tristan attacking a very patient Duncan on Duncan's side of the bed. We're not sure what the solution to that will be yet, but meanwhile I guess their martial arts training is starting early.

You know, I'm looking at that picture, and I'm thinking that the beloved dino suit is pretty ugly. :-p

Duncan looks like he's lost a little weight in that picture.

No Hanna, that suit is terribly cute. You are partial to dinosaurs. Apparently I am partial to monsters.

I think it's just the suit, James. It's way too big for him. (That's Tristan -- can't you tell them apart?!! :-P )
