1 Week

The twins are 1 week old today.

Tristan came out of his isolette last night, and is now happily maintaining his body temperature in an open crib. This makes changing him much easier, and also makes it feel more like he's our baby, since we can take him in and out without assistance. Tristan has been off of oxygen support for two days. Except for the feeding tube he's only attached to monitors, which all say he's doing well. He's doing great at breast feeding, too, getting 10-20 mL by his own effort. That's about half of a feeding. (Though, there was some confusion about this morning, due to him being weighed with and without a hat.) He would happily nurse for the rest, but production is still ramping up on my end. For now he has to share with his brother.

Duncan is still in his isolette. He's being weened off of the temperature support, and his oxygen support was removed on a trial basis this morning. So, he's a tiny bit behind Tristan, but not by much. He's also doing great at breast feeding, getting half a meal or more from nursing. We've so far found two ways to identify Duncan besides remembering which crib he came out of. He has a birth mark on one knee and a slight dent still left on one side of his head.

In general, everything is looking great. There are fewer tubes and wires to keep out of the diapers all the time. We're hoping that both babies will get trial breathing runs in their car seats this weekend as a possible prelude to coming home at the end of next week.

It is wonderful to hear that they are doing so well and that tube after tube is being removed. Typical Sizemores, one step ahead of everyone else. Keep those pictures coming!

Excellent news. Is the dent on Duncan's head the result of his brother kicking him in the head for 8-ish months? :)

More photos!

Not going to touch that comment, nor that subject.
